CHEESE AND WHALES

Between Adelaide and Victor Harbor somewhere:
We drove up this road and found an awsome cheese factory, where we filled our bellies with some mouthwatering cheese cake and milkshake.. There are also many beautiful wineries in the area. Have to go back some day for more tasties..

Adelaiden ja Victor Harborin valilta loytyy kaikenlaista maisteltavaa lukuisilta marja- ja viinitiloilta seka mm. juustotehdas, jossa kavimme visiitilla..

This time of the year the Southern Right Whales come to the coastal waters to give birth. We were lucky to see a mother whale and its calve last weekend. These pictures may not be quite the Discover Channel quality, it was very difficult to get a good photo of these massive creatures. As this photo shows, I wasn't the only person trying to capture a good view.

Ajelimme viikonloppuna rannikolle Victor Harboriin, silla tahan aikaan vuodesta on mahdollista nahda rannikolle synnyttamaan tulleita valaita. Onnistuimmekin nakemaan aiti-valaan ja ilmeisesti hiljattain syntyneen poikasen.

Ohessa Aiti-valas ja pikku-valas, mika ei kylla ollut kovin pieni..

Mummy-whale and its calve

If the above picture wasn't too clear, here's a picture of what the Southern Right Whales really look like.

Southern Right Whale on ruttuinen kaveri, jolla on valkoisia "arpia" naamassa..

The name "right" in the whale's name originates from whale hunting when this whale was considered as the right type of whale to hunt. Due to this the whales have been close to extinction. Now whaling is illegal and the Southern Right Whale is gaining back its population.
